SALT LAKE CITY WISEGUYS

Featuring for Ari Matti on the road has been such a blessing and a blast for so many reasons. One of those reasons being how many amazing & legendary A clubs we get to do. For those who may not know the term “A Clubs”, it’s maybe insider baseball, basically not all clubs are created equal. A lot of times that has to do with capacity at the club and how long they have been in the game being a home to comedy shows. Obvious examples of A clubs would be Comedy Mothership, Comedy Store, Comedy Works and this weekend in SLC I learned Salt Lake City Wiseguys is a part of that legendary list. Even though it sounds like a heigherarchy I truly think there are some B or C clubs that I would rather preform at than some A clubs… I’m not gonna say in writing because honestly I’ll preform anywhere they let me. ANNNNYYYYWAAAYYYY, this post is about SLC and the amazing time Ati and I both had there.

THE CITY

This was my first time in SLC and I gotta say… I absolutely loved it. The area the club is in is so cute, right next to a thrift store where I spent nearly $200 and don’t regret a penny of it. Also on that same block was a super cute coffee shop called “The Rosemont”… I think? It was a little frustrating that everything closed super early. Not only at night but coffee shops were all closed by like… 3 pm. If you’re a comedian you know that 3 pm… is like 3 hours after you wake up. On the other hand I loved how early every closed because after the shows in my dream world we would get food and then immediately go to the hotel. I don’t drink at all, I haven’t in like almost 7 years so if I go out at night it’s just because I love the people I’m hanging out with. Obviously with Ari it’s so fun to hang out after the shows because he’s like a nonstop riff and fun times. I do think when I’m alone headlining I’ll just get food and head the heck home to watch whatever show I’ve been into.

WISEGUYS SLC CLUB

Oh my goshhhhhhh guys this club… is everything! If you’re in SLC everrrrr you have to go! Not only does it have THREE comedy rooms that are constantly hosting shows through out the week. The staff is so fun, the location of the club is great and in a nice area AND the owner Keith is an absolute comedy legend. Obviously most comedy legends are comedians, however sometimes there is an owner or a booker who is so exceptional and supportive to the art form they get knighted in the comedy hall of fame. Most popularly names like Mitzi Shore, Adam Eget, Wendy from Comedy Works, Estee at The Cellar. Keith Stubbs is one of those legends! It’s even more remarkable to become a legend in comedy, not be a comedian AND not live in a major city. That just goes to show how much of an OG he has been to be all the way in SLC and still make that much of a mark on comedians experiences. Okay so Wiseguys also has a location in Vegas, they used to have a second Vegas location and that was the first club to ever ask me to headline. I did a showcase during Skankfest Vegas and the manager liked me so much she reached out to the owner (keith) and told him I should get a weekend. It was such a boost fot me as a young comic with essentially no following and it was such an incredible room, great location in the arts district. I think they just lost the lease because the building owner wanted to demolish and build something else. It’s really unfortunate because in my opinion that was one of the best comedy rooms in the nation. However I’ve heard the other Vegas location is fun too. Anyway, this SLC weekend was very special to me because Keith himself saw me preform and asked me to come back to headline the small room, lovingly called the Rickles room, at the end of May. Ticket link for that is in the tour section of my website! The site you are on right NOW!
